Ronald McDonald Family Rooms™
Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are an extension of the Ronald McDonald House program. They provide a haven right inside the hospital for families of children undergoing medical treatment. The Family Room provides some of the comforts of home to help alleviate the anxiety of being in a hospital environment. Families use the Family Room to rest, reflect or even freshen up with a shower. Any family who has a child registered in the hospital is welcome to use the Family Room. There is no referral needed. Some Family Rooms provide sleeping rooms for those families whose children are so ill that the parents cannot leave the hospital. In order to use the sleeping rooms, a referral from the hospital social worker is required. Family Rooms are staffed by RMHC volunteers.
We opened our first family room April 19th, 2006 at Odessa Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas. This is the world's 100th Family Room.
On July 27th, 2006 our organization opened two Family Rooms in Lubbock. A Family Room at Covenant Children's Hospital - Lakeside Campus and another at University Medical Center Hospital.
The Ronald McDonald Family Rooms serve families of all hospitalized children, regardless of whether home is two miles or two thousand miles away.
