Ronald McDonald Family Rooms®

Ronald McDonald Family Rooms® are an extension of the Ronald McDonald House® program.  They provide a personal respite right inside the hospital for families of children undergoing medical treatment.  The Family Room provides many of the comforts of home to help alleviate the anxiety of being in a hospital environment while being only a heartbeat away from their child.   Ronald McDonald Family Rooms provide a place to snack, rest, reflect or even freshen up with a shower.   Any family who has a child registered in the hospital is welcome to use the Family Room without charge.   There is no referral needed unless spending the night.  Some Family Rooms provide sleep rooms for those families whose children are so ill that the parents cannot leave the hospital.  To use the sleep rooms, a referral from the hospital social worker is required.  Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are staffed by RMHC staff and volunteers who are there to provide information, guidance and support.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Southwest opened its first Family Room April 19th, 2006 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas.  This is the world's 100th Ronald McDonald Family Room.

On July 27th, 2006 our organization opened two Family Rooms in Lubbock.  A Family Room at Covenant Women’s and Children’s Hospital – Lakeside Campus and another at University Medical Center Hospital.

The Ronald McDonald Family Rooms serve families of all hospitalized children, regardless of whether home is two miles or two thousand miles away.

Our Family Rooms are operated through the support of friends and partners. If you are interested in options for sponsoring a Family Room please contact Julie Harris at 806-744-8877 ext. 124.
