Odessa & Permian Basin
Ronald McDonald House Charities® of the Southwest, Inc. is proud to partner with the communities that make up the Permian Basin area of Texas. Through the amazing programs that the charity operates in the area, families with sick and injured children have a “home” right in the hospital where they can rest and renew but still be only seconds from their sick child and doctors. The Ronald McDonald Family Room® is a haven for families in crisis. And, children in school and rural areas are given the opportunity for health care and health education through the traveling medical clinic know as the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile. At the Ronald McDonald House in Lubbock, one in four families that stays is from the Permian Basin.
We opened our first Ronald McDonald Family Room® in 2006 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas. The Family Room in Odessa represents the world’s 100th Ronald McDonald Family Room® and serves families not only from the Permian Basin but from all over the United States. The Ronald McDonald Family Room serves families of all hospitalized children, regardless of whether home is two miles or two thousand miles away. In early 2012 a new, larger Family Room will open as Medical Center Hospital grows. We will be able to reach even more families and their children.
The 31st of 42 Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles® was delivered to Medical Center Hospital in the Permian Basin area on August 28, 2007. It is anticipated that the Care Mobile provides direct services for approximately 1500-3000 children ages 0-18 each year. To date the Care Mobile has provided care and health education to approximately 9000 children. These children are kept from falling through the cracks of health care and are treated at no cost to their families.
We have been able to make a difference in the lives of families and their sick children in the Permain Basin thanks to special funding and friendships. Among those who are contributing to the new Ronald McDonald Family Room at Medical Center Hospital:
The Wayne and Jo Ann Moore Foundation
The Permian Basin Youth Charavim
Lydia and Manuel Madrigal in honor of Marta and Rodrigo Evaro
H.E.B. Grocery Store
Jesse and Anna Carillo in honor of Senovia and Leonard Carillo
